Brian Price Enters 2010 NFL Draft

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

UCLA junior defensive tackle Brian Price has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Price is one of the top juniors in the country and has a chance of going in the first round of the upcoming draft. Price has a body type that reminds me a lot of former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

Price played in yesterday’s EagleBank Bowl, yet he played very inconsistently throughout the game, and that has been his biggest issue this year. He seems to run hot and cold; when he’s on, he’s one of the top defensive linemen in the country, but when he’s off, you question if he should even be drafted. Price recorded five tackles yesterday.

I’ve updated my defensive tackle rankings and currently have Price ranked behind Gerald McCoy of Oklahoma and ahead of Terrence Cody of Alabama. Continue to check back for more updated news!

Everson Griffen Declares for the 2010 Draft

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

USC junior defensive end Everson Griffen has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Griffen, a very talented player for the Trojan defense, is one of the top young defensive ends in college football. Griffen recorded seven sacks this year and has accumulated 16 over the course of his three-year career.

Griffen will be drafted mainly off of his potential at the next level. At 6-3, 280 lbs, he has a tremendous combination of size, speed, and athleticism. Griffen is still a bit raw, which is why he isn’t a lock for the first round, but he’s certainly as talented as most of the other defensive end prospects in this year’s draft.

I have updated my defensive end rankings, in which I have Griffen currently rated as the top defensive end in the 2010 Draft. It is expected, however, that both Derrick Morgan of Georgia Tech and Carlos Dunlap of Florida will both also enter the draft, and both players would likely be rated ahead of Griffen. I currently have Griffen rates as a late-first to early-second round pick.

Damian Williams Declares for Draft

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Multiple sources are reporting that USC junior wide recevier Damian Williams will forego his senior year and enter the 2010 NFL Draft. Williams has caught 58 passes for 821 yards and six touchdowns on the year and ranks as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2010 draft. He also is the sixth underclassman at the wide receiver position to declare for the draft.

Williams is a talented player who has the ability to beat a team deep as well as underneath. He has the speed needed to be a down-the-field threat, while he also is a polished receiver for being just a junior. Williams has a good chance of going in the first round.

I’ve updated my player rankings at the wide receiver position. I have Williams ranked behind Notre Dame’s Golden Tate and ahead of Kansas’ Dezmon Briscoe. The only remaining underclassman at the the receiver position who I think could declare for the draft is Georgia Tech’s Demaryius Thomas. Anthony Davis Declares

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Rutgers junior offensive tackle Anthony Davis has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Davis, one of the top offensive linemen eligible for the 2010 draft, is a near-lock to go in the first round assuming he checks out well at the Combine in February. Davis is a bit raw, but he has all of the tools needed to be a franchise left tackle in the NFL.

Davis was one of the key cogs of the Rutgers’ offensive line that helped to pave the way for former Scarlet Knights’ running back Ray Rice. Davis is a finesse offensive tackle as a pass blocker while he also gets a great push in the run game.

I’ve updated my player rankings to show the change. I have Davis ranked behind Russell Okung from Oklahoma State and ahead of Oklahoma’s Trent Williams. Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga is the remaining underclassman on the offensive line that is expected to declare for the draft.

Ryan Mathews Declares for the Draft

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Fresno State junior running back Ryan Mathews has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Mathews, who has rushed for 1,808 yards and 19 touchdowns on 276 attempts, recently had ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries in the New Mexico Bowl against Wyoming.

Mathews is one of the top running back prospects eligible for the draft. He’s a bigger back with the type of frame and running style that scouts look for in a starting running back in the NFL. Mathews has had a very productive career at Fresno State and projects as a second round pick, with a chance of going in the first round.

I’ve updated my player rankings at the running back position; I have Mathews ranked second behind C.J. Spiller of Clemson and ahead of Toby Gerhart of Stanford. Continue to check back for updates on which underclassmen decide to declare for the draft.

Donovan Warren Declares For Draft

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

I’ve received word that Michigan junior cornerback Donovan Warren has officially declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Warren immediately becomes the top-ranked cornerback in the 2010 Draft; he’ll be ranked as the second-best corner assuming Florida’s Joe Haden declares. Warren declaring was of no surprise to me, as I had Warren going in the first round in my latest mock draft.

Warren has had an up-and-down season in 2009. From a team standpoint, the Michigan Wolverines didn’t play up to the expectations that many had for them this year, however from a personal standpoint, Warren recorded four interceptions and 66 tackles, both career-highs.

I’ve updated my player rankings to show the change with Warren at the top of the cornerback rankings. Continue to check back at Draft Headquarters for updated information.

Gerald McCoy Declares for Draft

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Oklahoma junior defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has declared for the 2010 Draft. McCoy is ranked by most observers as one of the top overall prospects for the draft, regardless of position.

McCoy has had a very good season in 2009 with 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. McCoy’s best fit at the next level will come in the 4-3 defense as a three-technique, between the guard and the tackle.

I’ve updated my player rankings at the defensive tackle position to show the change. McCoy is rated behind Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska and ahead of Jared Odrick from Penn State.

Bruce Campbell Declares for Draft

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Two weeks ago in my Monday Morning Roundup I said that Maryland offensive tackle Bruce Campbell was likely to declare for the 2010 NFL Draft. He did just that this morning. According to Campbell, it was “an opportunity I can’t pass up.”

Campbell, a 6-7, 310 lb offensive tackle, will likely be one of the most talented players in the 2010 draft. However, as talented as he is, he’s also extremely raw and will need a lot of coaching and refining at the next level. With that said, assuming he impresses at the Combine, which is a given for a player who has been said to be the “Vernon Davis of the offensive line,” then I could definitely see Campbell sneaking into the late-first round to a team (as shown in my mock draft) that will sit back and wait patiently as he develops before letting him loose in a year or two.

I’ve update my player rankings, specifically at offensive tackle, to show the change. I currently have Campbell ranked behind Russell Okung from Oklahoma State and Trent Williams from Oklahoma, and ahead of Selvish Capers from West Virginia.

Arrelious Benn Declares for Draft

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

It is being reported that Illinois junior wide receiver Arrelious Benn has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Benn will reportedly hold a press conference later today to discuss his decisison.

Benn had a down junior year, only hauling in 38 passes for 490 yards and two touchdowns. While the stats come off as alarming, much of this was due to the lack of production from the quarterback position. Benn is hands down one of the most talented receivers in the country and should have a good chance of going in the first round.

I’ve updated my wide receiver rankings to show the change. Benn finishes his career at Illinois with 159 catches for 2,221 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jake Locker to RETURN for Senior Year

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Breaking News at Draft Headquarters as we have received word that Washington quarterback Jake Locker will return to school for his senior season. Locker, who many have ranked as one of the top prospects for the 2010 Draft, has reportedly decided to stay in school.

With that said, Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen immediately becomes the elite option at quarterback for the 2010 Draft. This also opens up the door for Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett to leave early and replace Locker as one of the top quartebrack prospects in the draft.

Locker returns to Washington after having thrown for 2,800 yards, 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 58.1% completion percentage this past year as a junior. Locker will enter the 2010 season as one of the top ranked quarterbacks in the country.
