More Free Agency Info

Friday, February 29th, 2008

From what I was recently told, linebacker Calvin Pace may have a deal in place with the Dolphins that would pay him up to $20 million guaranteed. It’s been reported that Pace also may take a visit to New York to meet with the Jets.

The Browns have reportedly traded cornerback Leigh Bodden and a 3rd Round pick to Detroit for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. This opens the possibilty for a trade that I mentioned a few weeks ago. The Browns could now trade for a cornerback with Bodden gone. DeAngelo Hall is still in Atlanta. I also mentioned last week that there could be a high-profile quarterback being traded soon. Could a trade of Hall to Cleveland for one of the Browns quarterbacks now make sense? While this isn’t a sure thing, it seems like the chances of a trade like this getting done now seems better.

Free Agency Inside Info

Friday, February 29th, 2008

From what I’ve been told, Philadelphia is expected to make a push for free agent wide receiver Randy Moss. Adding Moss along with Asante Samuel from earlier today would instantly make the Eagles one of the favorites to win the NFC.

Expect most of the big time free agents to be signed by Sunday night.

The Vikings are currently in contract talks with free agent wide receiver Bernard Berrian. The former Bear could land a deal worth $25 million with around $12 million guaranteed.

Draft Chat news, Free Agency

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Here is the transcript from the draft chat last night over at Packer Chatters. I’ve decided that the next draft chat for Draft Headquarters is going to be next Wednesday, March 5th, at 9:00 PM EST.

- With free agency now underway, here are a few deals that have taken place since last night:

The Panthers have traded defensive tackle Kris Jenkins to the New York Jets in exchange for a pair of 3rd and 5th Round picks.

Bengals defensive end Justin Smith will visit the 49ers before likely visiting the Vikings.

The Falcons have contacted free agent running back Michael Turner. If Atlanta were to sign Turner, I think that it’d be pretty clear that they wouldn’t be drafting Darren McFadden in April.

The Packers traded franchise defensive tackle Corey Williams to the Browns for a second-round choice. Williams is expected to sign a six-year, $38 million contract.

- Did Darren McFadden’s performance at the Combine have anything to do with sprinter Michael Johnson’s speed camp?

Draft Chats, News

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Tonight I’ll be heading over to Packer Chatters for a draft chat. It’d be great if everyone here could stop by. Here’s a link for the chat.

I’m still working on setting up a Draft Headquarters chat for next week. I’m thinking that it will likely be next Tuesday or Wednesday.

- Free Agency begins tonight at 12:00 PM EST. You can expect plenty of dealing this weekend with a few trades. Pro Football Talk is reporting that Denver, the New York Jets, and the Lions are talking about a three way deal “that would send Detroit defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to New York, Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to the Broncos, and Denver cornerback Dominique Foxworth and a second-round pick to the Lions.” Detroit is also looking to trade for Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma. As I mentioned yesterday before any other media outlets did, expect the Vikings to be active in free agency. From what I was told, they could have a few deals done as early as this weekend.

Pictures from the Combine

Here are some pictures from the Combine this past weekend. Enjoy!

I’m planning on updating the rankings and mock draft this weekend.

Glenn Dorsey, Limas Sweed News

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

From what I was told yesterday, there’s talk that Glenn Dorsey has a rod in his leg due to stress fractures. This is similar to last year when Alan Branch slipped to the 2nd Round due to a stress fracture in his leg. While Dorsey won’t slip to the 2nd Round, he could potentially fall out of the Top 5. Keep an eye on this one.

I recently talked to a league source about Texas wide receiver Limas Sweed. He said that the his team’s doctors gave Sweed and his wrist an okay, meaning the their team would be safe to draft him without having to worry about his wrist injury. While some teams still might be a bit cautious, it helps that Sweed looked good this past weekend at the Combine.

There’s talk that Miami (FL) defensive end Calais Campbell will fall to the 2nd Round in the draft. You can’t show up at the Combine weighing 290 lbs and only put up 16 reps of 225 lbs on the bench. It also hurts that ran a 5.03 40-yard dash. Campbell looked stiff in many of the position drills as well. He may have hurt his stock as bad as anyone this weekend.

Draft Chats, News

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Everyone have a good Combine weekend?

A couple of “draft chat” notes to bring up. This Thursday night at 9:00 PM EST I’ll be heading over to Packer Chatters for a Post-Combine draft chat. It’d be great if everyone here could come and check it out.

Also, with the Combine in the rear-view mirror, how about another Draft Headquarters chat? I know that the last one was just last week, but we have a lot to talk about from the Combine. Let me know what you think.

- There were four teams in the sweepstakes for Vikings wide receiver Troy Williamson. Three of the teams offered a player-for-player trade, while the Jaguars were the only team to offer a draft pick. The Vikes wanted the pick. Also, expect Minnesota to be busy early on in free agency. They could have a few deals signed within the first few days. Free Agency starts Friday morning at 12:00 AM EST.

Shaun Rogers

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

There’s talk that if Detroit deals Shaun Rogers to Denver, the Broncos may be willing to swap picks in the 1st Round. Detroit owns the 15th pick, while Denver owns the 12th. There are currently a lot of trades that are being talked about. When the first one is made, it could potentially start a domino effect.

- Some scouts think that one way or another, Jerry Jones is going to come away with Arkansas running back Darren McFadden. Jones was reportedly seen with a giant smile on his face after McFadden ran his 4.33 40-yard dash.

DRC vertical

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Tennessee State cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was tops among defensive backs with a 38.5 inch vertical jump. Aqib Talib came in 2nd with 38 inches. Leodis McKelvin did not make the top ten with his 33.5.

Leodis McKelvin vertical

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin just posted a 33.5 inch vertical jump. This isn’t as good as Talib’s 38, but McKelvin put up a better 40 time. The battle between these two for the top cornerback position should get interesting in the days leading up to the draft.
